About the Artist

Jey uses art as a practical tool to explore and uncover complex scientific and philosophical ideas. He takes several of these often disparate elements and minimally represents them on the canvas. Then using art, or engaging his heart, he connects and builds upon these initial scattering of ideas. He periodically analyses the artwork as it develops, and continuing the interplay of art and thought – heart and mind.

Art nudges our emotions and continues to shape our behaviour without our awareness well after we have experienced it . This is one of the mechanisms that shapes us as individuals and our communities. Advertising would be the most obvious example, whereby stirring the emotions and pairing these with a promotional product influences us to then purchase that product. Art too stirs our emotions, and Jey uses art not just to communicate to and inspire his audience, but also to promote positive social change.

Jey has been painting since he was a young boy. He remembers riding around on his tricycle watching his mother paint landscapes. Not having many toys growing up meant that Jey turned to painting to capture his vivid imagination. A self taught artist, Jey has learnt his craft through exploration and perseverance, and is keen to bring together ideas about the mind and emotional states through his artwork.
